Just as in the first book, this one is also a perfect combination of words, pictures and message that is worth sharing with others.

Sometimes you run across something special and you just want to share it with everyone you know. This happened to me with two new books that I just read. They are special in an understated way. They reach out to all readers and are uplifting. In a refreshingly simple and heartwarming way, Elana Arnold and Linda Davick present Riley. Riley chooses a different outfit to wear each day of the week, in school and out. This picture book, "normalizes the multifaceted gender expressions people can have." (Kirkus Reviews) We never find out if Riley is a boy or a girl. This is unimportant! What is important is the way that Riley is creative and caring to friends. When Riley wonders, "If being a friend could be a superhero," I was fully connected to this wonderful child and knew that I would be buying this book for my collection. Next, meet Faizah, on her first day of school, who is beaming with pride because it is her older sister, Asiya's first day of hijab. According to Faizah, the hijab is the color blue, "like the ocean waving to the sky." When she sees some people yelling and bullying her sister she can't understand why they don't see the hijab as strong and friendly and beautiful. Their Mama is very wise when she says, "Don't carry around the hurtful words that others say. Drop them. They are not yours to keep." This is an amazing book about faith, pride, self identity and understanding others.
