In the fall of 2019 I attended a free School Library Journal Day of Dialog where I heard from authors and illustrators about their new titles. I also got introduced to a new publishing company, Reycraft books, whose mission is to share, "authentic stories and illustrations reflecting the voice and vision of children." The vendors were quite generous and gave us six quite good picture books for us to add to our library collection. These books are perfect for our pre-K through third grade level. The stories are engaging; the illustrations pleasant. This is a story of sharing and caring. This is a sweet and very age appropriate introduction to friendship and what it means to be transgender. This is a story of how friends deal with the issues of bragging and showing off. This is a cute story about a baby kangaroo who is searching for the meaning of a kangaroo's pouch. This is a tender story of an orange horse in search of his missing brother. It is a story of noticing differences but finding similarities. This story, reminiscent of the classic tale, The Mitten, goes further and involves a father's love for his family and a boy's caring actions. Well, we were certainly lucky to receive this gift of six Reycraft books! It will be delightful to share them with our students.
