In My Mosque Written by M. O. Yuksel; Illustrated by Hatem Aly To learn about other religions and places of worship is a very good thing. This book shares the perfect balance of words and pictures to describe such a place, a mosque, where: everyone is welcome, Aunties give hugs, the carpet is silly-soft and soothing sounds are in the air. The author and illustrator have done an excellent job of offering information, about mosques and what happens inside, in very child friendly sentences and warm and colorfully designed pictures. We are invited in to this place of worship where stories are told, where worshippers connect with their Creator and one another in a most heartfelt manner. I love that the reader is presented with children who sometimes get distracted but are cheered on by their angels or other children who race around inside to be helpful to others. I love that the mosque is presented as a welcoming place and that, “In my mosque, we pray for peace, love, and joy...just like my friends who worship in churches, temples, and synagogues.” Definitely a book to be shared aloud, to be part of school libraries for upper preschool and elementary school aged children.
