Written and Illustrated by Dav Pilkey
Cat Kid Comic Club Written and Illustrated by Dav Pilkey Dav Pilkey does it again. All the right elements for a successful children’s book for first through fourth graders are right in this 173 page book. He has taken his wonderfully popular Captain Underpants and Super Diaper Baby stories and expanded on them. This book is an instructional course on how to write a good story; what to put in, what to leave out. He does this by including more than ten comic books written by the attendees of the Cat Kid Comic Club. While the kids argue, annoy one another and try to write some comics and embarrass themselves, their Dad sets some annoying rules like nothing about Poo or death or violence or zombies can be included in their comics. Well, he gets a talking to that we all can learn from. Nurse Lady tells him he’s overreacting and that adults make and read that kind of stuff all of the time and it’s considered normal and healthy for the adults . So, Dad chill out and let the kids learn and have fun and explore! The variety of comic books in this book are brilliant and a teacher’s writing dream. They come in all levels and include non-fiction and a haiku/ photograph version as well as the standard graphic comic look that we are accustomed to when reading a Pilkey children’s book. Don’t pass this one over. It really is a writer’s goldmine and FUN too!
