Mr. Putter & Tabby Pour the Tea
By Cynthia Rylant; Illustrated by Arthur Howard
Mr. Putter is a lonely old man who wants nothing more than to share his tea, his muffins, his garden and his stories with someone who also appreciates these things. I love how he justifies not purchasing the cute kittens in a pet store and thinks, “[I have] not been cute and peppy for a very long time...I want a cat.” He finds an older one in the shelter who becomes his perfect companion and thus their lives begin together. In other books, with these characters, we find them doing normal life activities and engaging with their neighbors. This is a perfectly comfortable, wholesome series to share with children ages four to six.
I sincerely think that you will appreciate both of these books as read alouds to your special reading buddy. I’m so glad that I shared them with you. Thanks for making me happy and allowing me to share with you!
