Wonder Walkers By Micha Archer Micha Archer, the creator of this book, is an author/ illustrator who I greatly admire for her previous books about the young boy Daniel and his life ( Daniel’s Good Day, Daniel Finds A Poem). This book was a Caldecott Honor Book, deservedly so. It does a remarkable job sharing the wonder of the natural world. Two curious children go out for a walk and pose poetic and interesting questions about our natural world: “ Is fog the river’s blanket? Do mountains have bones? Are forests the mountain’s fur?…” Each double page spread shows the children totally engaged in their environs. They are actively listening to the river, eyeing the plants, and stretching towards the sky. The illustrations are filled with marvelously colored and detailed images that bring the outdoor world close to the reader to think about and to ponder. This picture book could be used in classrooms for early elementary children when wanting to promote mindfulness or care for our earth. Also because of the gentle cadence of its words, this book would make a lovely gift book and could be use by preschoolers up as a goodnight book. I hope you too can take a “wonder walk.”
